What we do... the big picture

"What is Neurodevelopmental Therapy and what do you do?"

Is your child finding school or everyday life more difficult than expected?

Map & Compass specialises in identifying and addressing physical and neurological factors that may contribute to learning challenges, underachievement, and emotional or behavioural difficulties. The approaches used are neurodevelopmental, auditory, and bilateral integration programmes—evidence-based interventions that support the brain and body to work together more efficiently.

These programmes can be particularly helpful for children and young people who are finding it harder than expected to manage the demands of school, friendships, or everyday routines—especially when they appear to be putting in more effort than peers to achieve the same outcomes.

While Map & Compass primarily works with children and young people, these approaches are also available for adults.

Difficulties such as immaturities in the nervous system or inefficient auditory processing can impact how a person interprets information, concentrates, or responds to the world around them. These challenges can be subtle and are often overlooked in standard educational or health settings.

Our tailored programmes are designed to support underlying neurological development through movement and listening activities. Each plan is individualised and developmentally appropriate, with the aim of helping the nervous system function as effectively as possible—removing physical barriers that may be hindering progress, learning, or wellbeing.

Research-Based Programmes with Real-Life Impact

These programmes are grounded in over five decades of internationally recognised research and have the potential to bring meaningful, positive changes to daily life.

Using specialised, evidence-based approaches, Map & Compass supports individuals in managing a wide range of learning, emotional, social, and physical challenges.

Interventions include:

  • The INPP Method (reflex integration)

  • Johansen Individualised Auditory Stimulation (JIAS)

  • The Ronnie Gardiner Method (RGM) for bilateral integration

Together, these approaches help children and young people build stronger foundations for learning, communication, regulation, and participation in daily life.

Map and Compass works with children, adolescents, adults and families who are committed to engaging in daily listening and specialised movement activities in order to see improvement in their lives.

It is important to note that these therapies require a daily commitment.

A Safe, Developmentally Informed Approach

Neurodevelopmental Therapy is a gentle, drug-free, and non-invasive approach designed to support areas of difficulty related to development, learning, behaviour, and emotional regulation. Using specific movement patterns that stimulate and integrate retained primitive reflexes, this work supports the development of brain-body connections that may not have fully matured during early childhood.

This offers a “second chance” for the nervous system to revisit and strengthen foundational stages of development, helping to create the physical and neurological conditions needed for progress across many aspects of life.

Looking at the Whole Child

Taking a neurodevelopmental perspective means considering the whole child—viewing their experiences and challenges through a developmental lens.

Where needed, I also work in an advisory capacity, helping families connect with other professionals who may support their child’s progress, including:

  • Nutrition and biomedical specialists

  • Educational or psychological professionals

  • Speech and language therapists

  • Social care practitioners

The ultimate aim is to help each child reach their potential—whether through the therapies offered at Map & Compass or by pointing families towards the right support at the right time.
